Keith Barrett believes he can improve Huntington Town by running it more like a business.

“I bring commonsense solutions to everyday problems,” Barrett said in a phone interview. “It’s what I’ve done as deputy director of general services for Huntington Town.”

Barrett is a Democrat running for one of two seats up for grabs on the town board this November. He’s running alongside Councilwoman Susan Berland (D), and both are backed by the Huntington Town Democratic Committee.

Barrett is a Huntington native. He went to Walt Whitman High School, and started his own business, Barrett Automotive, in 1997 in Huntington Station. Southampton PBA Endorses Fleming for County Legislature

Bridget Fleming, a five-year Southampton Town Councilwoman who now seeks to represent the South Fork and Shelter Island in the Suffolk County Legislature, has been endorsed for that position by the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association of Southampton Town.

In a letter, the PBA cites Ms. Fleming’s “work ethic, honesty, and selfless approach to community concerns,” stating that on the Town Council, she has “exemplified what it means to be a true representative of the ‘People’.”

Southampton’s PBA represents patrolmen in the largest police force in the 2nd Legislative District, which comprises Southampton, East Hampton and Shelter Island Towns, plus part of Brookhaven Town. Referring to Ms. Fleming, the organization’s endorsing letter goes on to declare:

Krupski: County purchase of 95-acre Broad Cove site moving forward

The process will be set in motion next week to acquire the 95-acre former duck farm in Riverhead valued by environmentalists one of the most important properties for preservation in the Peconic Estuary, County Legislator Al Krupski said today.

The former Celic duck farm site known as Broad Cove, situated on Terry Creek and Meetinghouse Creek, will be the subject of a procedural motion at the county legislature Tuesday, authorizing the county to make an offer to buy the site for preservation, Krupski said.

In a low-key party convention that contrasted sharply with the goings-on at the meeting of their Republican counterparts at Polish Hall last night, Riverhead Democrats picked their slate at the Polish Town Civic Association headquarters.
Anthony Coates, longtime ally and former paid political adviser to the supervisor won the nomination unanimously.
The Democrats nominated political newcomers Neil Krupnick and Laura Jens Smith for town council, passing over Riverhead Move the Animal Shelter founder Denise Lucas.

After knocking on 3,000 doors over the past five months, Tim Sini, County Executive Steve Bellone's top criminal justice aide Monday announced his candidacy to run against GOP Legis. Kevin McCaffrey.

Sini, 34, a $110,000 a year assistant deputy county executive, made the announcement in a news release three days before the Democratic county convention. Sini since last year has campaigned door to door, as an unpaid special assistant to Babylon Supervisor Richard Schaffer, who is also Suffolk Democratic chairman.

Democrats have made a priority of ousting McCaffrey (R-Lindenhurst), a Teamster union leader and former Lindenhurst deputy mayor, who scored a major upset two years ago in the 14th District, where Bellone resides.
