A few months ago I took my five-year-old son, Henry, clamming in Hallocks Bay for the first time. The water ran clear and cool in the shallows as we waded out beyond the prickly cordgrass and the mussels that hold the bank. I lowered the scratch rake to the bottom and began digging, listening for the clunk a clam makes amidst the rattle of stones. Minutes later we had a chowder. Henry reached in past the rake’s teeth and grabbed it. “We’re going to eat this one, Dad,” he told me excitedly as he wiped mud from its shell. Under a bright June sun, my eyes refocused and I caught sight of our reflections rippling below—silhouettes on the surface of the bay.  read more »

Philip Ramos represents the 6th Assembly District, which includes portions of the hamlets of Brentwood, Baywood, Central Islip, Bay Shore, North Bay Shore, Islip and Islandia. He was elected to a newly created Assembly seat in 2002. Phil Ramos was born in the Bronx. The son of a correction officer and a registered nurse, Phil learned at an early age the value of helping people and being dedicated to your community. His family was one of the first Hispanic families to move to Brentwood in 1957. He has lived in the community for the past 50 years, raising his two children and working tirelessly on behalf of the community. read more »

Steve Stern

Steve Stern is proud to have been re-elected as the New York State Assemblyman representing the 10th Assembly District. Elected to the Assembly in a special election in April 2018, Steve hit the ground running by passing an impressive 6 bills in his first 6 weeks, including laws to protect our precious groundwater, services for veterans and measures to protect children’s health. Steve also secured unprecedented funding for local schools and for law enforcement in the fights against the deadly opioid epidemic and MS-13. Steve believes that reducing gun violence is one of the great moral issues of our time, and necessary to protect public safety. He is the proud co-sponsor of New York’s “Red Flag Law” which keeps guns out of the hands of those who should not have them and allows immediate intervention when individuals pose a risk to public safety. read more »

Kimberly Jean-Pierre the daughter of parents who migrated from Haiti to the United States. After high school, she attended Brooklyn College, and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing in 2005. In pursuit of her Master’s Degree she attended Stony Brook University, earning her Master of Science in Public Policy in 2007. - Babylon Town Supervisor

Rich Schaffer is a Democrat who is seeking re-election as Babylon Town Supervisor. After being elected to the County Legislature in 1987, Schaffer initially served as Town Supervisor from 1992 to 2001. Following the election of Supervisor Steve Bellone to the position of County Executive, Schaffer was appointed Supervisor in January 2012 and won a special election that November to fill the remainder of the term. read more »

- Babylon Town Council

Antonio Martinez is a Democrat who is seeking re-election as Babylon Town Councilman. After a career as a community organizer and then as a union organizer with the Empire State Regional Council of Carpenters, Martinez was appointed to the Town Board in 2008 and was elected to a full-term in 2009. As a member of the Town Board, Martinez serves as the liason to the Department of Parks and Recreation as well as to the Babylon Industrial Development Agency. He also serves as the Town's Deputy Supervisor.  read more »
