Universal Healthcare: If They Can Do It, Why Can't We?
Lessons learned from other developed nations' approach to healthcare
At our next general meeting, RaisingVoicesUSA will present a special program focused on comparative universal healthcare systems throughout the world.
Examining the ways other countries achieve universal healthcare can inform how we might improve our own fractured healthcare system, which leaves tens of millions of U.S. residents uninsured and underinsured each year, and ranks at the bottom of developed nations in terms of declining health outcomes and life expectancy.
To aid our exploration, we will screen segments of the PBS/FRONTLINE documentary Sick Around the World. FRONTLINE teams up with author T.R. Reid to find out how five capitalist democracies--the U.K, Japan, Germany, Taiwan, and Switzerland--deliver healthcare, and what the U.S. could learn from their successes and failures.
