James Collagan

James Colligan (Jimmy) was elected as Shelter Island Town Councilman in November 2015. His sound educational background includes a BS from Niagara University, a Masters from Adelphi and a Diploma in School Administration from Hofstra. A Vietnam and Desert Storm Veteran, he is a recipient of two Bronze Stars which brought him to the rank of Colonel, US Army. After a long career in education and coaching, and many years of local volunteer work, he entered political office. In his own words, “It has been a privilege to serve as your councilman. My involvement on five major town committees has been both challenging and rewarding. My commitment to improving water quality, community housing initiatives, the infrastructure, lower tick-density, as well as updating and adopting a comprehensive plan, are my major goals for a 2nd term. This requires a vision, leadership, hard work, as well as being a problem solver. I ask for your support and welcome the challenges that lie ahead.”
