Ester Bivona

Huntington Receiver of Taxes
Receiver of Taxes Ester Bivona

Ester Bivona began her public service career in 1982 as Deputy Receiver of Taxes for the Town of Huntington. In 1991 Ester was elected Receiver of Taxes for Huntington and has served in that capacity for over twenty three years.

As Receiver of Taxes, Mrs. Bivona has been guided by five principles, Access; Integrity; Independence; Innovation and Experience. Ester is a "hands on" manager who is the first person you will see when you walk into the tax office and one of seven people who will answer the phone if you call.

Her common sense approach is seen in many of the innovations she has initiated in the Huntington Tax Office. Through her efforts, Huntington is the first Town Hall equipped with an ATM machine for the convenience of residents and employees and is the first town tax office accepting credit cards for tax payments at no charge to the town. Taxes may also be paid electronically. The tax office also has a web page on the town website: http://huntingtonny.gov, which provides access 24/7 to real estate tax information, free to the user. Using “flex” time, the tax office is open extended hours each day, at no additional cost to the taxpayers.

Over the years, Mrs. Bivona has been active in many community and professional organizations. Currently Treasurer of LIOCEANS an ovarian cancer awareness group, Mrs. Bivona has been active in the American Red Cross, Debora Hospital, Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition, and Soroptimist International of Huntington. She is currently the President of the Suffolk County Receivers Association, past President of the New York State Receivers and Collectors Association and past President of the Northeast Regional Tax Collectors and Treasurer’s Association.

Mrs. Bivona is a graduate of Harborfields High School, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from SUNY at Geneseo and a Masters Degree in Education from Hofstra University.

Ester Bivona is married to John C. Bivona, a New York State Supreme Court Justice. They are the proud parents of a son, John, a LTC in the US Army.
