Lee Zeldin Embraces the Tea Party Agenda By Choosing Congressman Allen West as Campaign Kick-Off Special Guest

August 19, 2014

Farmingville, N.Y.— Today, the Bishop for Congress Campaign issued the following statement regarding Lee Zeldin welcoming Tea Partier Allen West as the “special guest” at his campaign kickoff:

Campaign spokesman Evan Lukaske said, “Allen West represents everything that is wrong with Congress. As a member of Congress he was more concerned with pursuing his right-wing ideological agenda than solving problems. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Zeldin has chosen West as his biggest supporter—both want to give more tax cuts to the wealthy at the expense of the middle class and are endorsed by groups that want to make abortion illegal in cases of rape and incest.”

Former Army Lt. Col. and Congressman Allen West served in Congress from 2011 to 2013 as the Representative for Florida’s 22nd Congressional District, having been elected in the 2010 Tea Party wave. He earned praise from conservatives such as Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck for his right wing rhetoric that compared Social Security to slavery, called the DREAM Act “reprehensible,” characterized the Democratic Party as a “21st Century Plantation” and compared the U.S. government under President Obama to Nazi Germany.

The Zeldin for Congress Kickoff Rally will be held on September 8 at 7pm.
