Bishop for Congress launches “Do More” television ad

August 12, 2014

Farmingville, N.Y.— Today, the Tim Bishop for Congress campaign launched a television advertisement, Do More, highlighting his commitment to the middle-class families of Long Island and his successful fight to protect Long Island jobs.

Rep. Bishop said, “I’m very proud to share with Long Island voters my lifelong commitment to growing and strengthening the middle class. I believe in investing in middle-class families by funding high-tech research, job training, and more math and science in our schools. That’s how you create good-paying jobs—not by protecting tax breaks for millionaires, opposing equal pay for women and privatizing social security.”

The ad features employees at Brookhaven National Lab describing Rep. Bishop’s work to protect their jobs when Congress wanted to cut funding for the cutting edge research institution. Rep. Bishop successfully fought against severe budget cuts that would have resulted in 1,000 jobs being lost and hundreds of millions of dollars in lost economic output.

Established in 1947, Brookhaven National Laboratory is a world-class research institution located in Upton, New York. Brookhaven’s workforce numbers 3,000 and consists of scientists, engineers and support staff, in addition to thousands of visiting researchers. Brookhaven research has produced seven Nobel Prizes.

Rep. Bishop has a strong record of fighting to protect good-paying jobs on Long Island. When the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) proposed moving the New York Air Traffic Control center in Ronkonkoma and the New York Terminal Radar Approach Control facility in Westbury off Long Island, Rep. Bishop spearheaded the effort to keep the facility on Long Island and saved nearly 1,000 jobs. He also wrote the Outsourcing Accountability Act to prohibit tax dollars from being used to train foreign workers and eliminate tax breaks for big corporations who outsource jobs overseas.
