Americans are born of immigrants. From the Jamestown colony to the barrios of our major cities, many people have come to the United States to build a better life, not just for themselves, but for future generations.

Immigrants bring their customs, culture and religions with them; because of this, our country has become a beautiful tapestry, made up of people who really want the same thing for their children.| read more ››

Oct

2012

Huntington Station, NY - New York State Assembly candidate Joe Dujmic today called upon the Long Island Power Authority to release the full details of its recently announced Amended and Restated Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with National Grid, and delay implementation of the agreement until it can be coordinated with the utility's 2010 Request for Proposals for new power generation.

Dujmic also said that the long-term goal for LIPA should be to "maximize the use of renewable, Green Power sources."

Transparency and Full Details Needed

"An agreement of this magnitude deserves full transparency, with adequate time for public scrutiny and analysis by elected officials and ratepayer advocacy groups," said Dujmic.

"Right now, all we have is a...| read more ››

Oct

2012

Huntington Station, NY - New York State Assembly candidate Joe Dujmic announced today that Jennifer Maertz has been added to his growing campaign team in the 10th Assembly District.

Ms. Maertz, a practicing insurance litigation attorney, ran for New York State Senate in eastern Suffolk in 2010. Despite entering that race late in the campaign cycle, Ms. Maertz made a strong challenge to an entrenched incumbent -- her vote total was in the top four of the 17 races the incumbent has run over three decades.

"Jennifer Maertz brings considerable experience not only as a volunteer on a number of political campaigns, but as a former candidate herself," said Dujmic. "I am excited to have someone of her caliber and...| read more ››

On the Right Path

Earlier this year, a Blue Ribbon task force that I appointed to examine Suffolk County’s budget crisis informed us that we were facing a three-year budget deficit of $530 million – a shocking number that was far worse than we could have imagined.

With your support, we have taken the tough measures needed to pull our county out of this mess and avert a fiscal disaster. In just the past few weeks, I am proud to say that we have taken important steps to move Suffolk County forward including unanimous, bipartisan support for a contract with the PBA. And I am particularly proud to say something many thought unthinkable several months ago—I introduced a balanced budget which stays within the...| read more ››

Protecting the Environment and Public Health

Our Congressional District violates public health standards for ozone pollution and violates public health standards for soot pollution. This is the air we breathe. House Republicans passed a bill that would require the President to establish a committee to conduct an analysis of the cumulative impacts of EPA regulations on the economy. The bill would also delay the implementation of critical emissions standards.

Our Congressman Peter King voted to weaken the Clean Air Act by delaying current compliance deadlines for industry by a minimum of 3.5 years. This vote overturns federal court decisions interpreting the Clean Air Act and deletes provisions in the Clean Air Act that courts have upheld as unambiguously clear and protective and weakens the law's longstanding...| read more ››

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone on Friday released a proposed 2013 budget that erases the county's deficit while keeping increases under the state's 2 percent tax cap.
