Islip, NY - Islip Democratic Leader, Gerry Pallotta, is delighted to announce the Candidate Screening Committee has unanimously designates Dafny Irizarry of East Islip, and Ken Mangan of Sayville, as candidates for the Town Board in this November’s election. Ms Irizarry and Mr Mangan will be presented for confirmation by the Islip Democratic Committee during its convention next month.

“Dafny and Ken are two family and community oriented professionals, with impressive credentials and accomplishments, and a history of service to people, especially those in need. With their backgrounds and life’s experiences, not only do they complement each other as a team, but Dafny and Ken can also relate well to the typical Islip resident who works hard every day to support a family, and who cares about their children’s education and future”, said Mr. Pallotta.

Mr. Pallotta also pointed out that “Dafny and Ken will be a breath of fresh air in Town Hall. This Republican Town Board has failed to deliver on campaign promises to run an open and transparent government that is not influenced by bad politics, raising property taxes and fees by unprecedented proportions, while reducing services, firing respected and qualified town employees, and hiring or contracting replacements which continue to raise questions. The current 5 – 0 Republican Board does not serve the community’s interests well – Dafny and Ken will bring balance, creative solutions, transparency and accountability back to Islip Town Hall.”

Rich Schaffer, Suffolk County Democratic Committee Chair, added “I am excited about the vision and forward thinking that Dafny and Ken represent for the future of Islip Town.

Ms Irizarry said “I am looking forward to being a voice for all Islip residents. The Town faces unprecedented challenges, and needs government leaders who are able to work together to meet those challenges. One concern is the young brain drain due to high costs of living and the limited opportunities to put down career roots. This Town Board’s recent 28% tax increase only makes the future for our young residents and all of Islip that much more difficult.”

Mr Mangan said “I am honored to be designated as the candidate for Islip Town Council. I am truly motivated to working with voters to bring forth a fresh, new voice to Islip Town Government. As a small business owner and civic leader, I will fight for targeted property tax relief for lower and middle class homeowners, and provide the services we expect from our Town Government.”
