Stephen Lynch

East Hampton Highway Superintendent

I was born and raised in East Hampton and I am the son of Robert and Loretta Lynch. I went to E.H.H.S. and graduated in 1978. I married my wife Regina in 1983 and we raised our 3 boys Stephen, Jimmy and Kyle. We are members of Saint Luke’s Church where my wife has taught Sunday School for over 20 years.

My brother Bobby and I had a trucking company from 1982 till 1986 when he passed, it was at that time I sold the company. I then went into the excavation business, we excavated for foundations, installed septic systems, driveways, land clearing and trucking. In 1990 we expanded the business to complete swimming pool installations and swimming pool service. Then my wife and I opened a pool and spa store (Tropical Island Pools and Spas) in 1992. We sold the pool service business in 2005 and closed the store. My oldest son Stephen Jr. ran the excavation business from 2012 when I was elected Highway Superintendent till 2016 when we sold the excavating and swimming pool construction business. I am also a member of the East Hampton Fire Department and East Hampton Lions Club. I was a Cub Scout leader and helped coach little league.

Since I have taken office in 2012 I started a pavement preservation program to get longer life out of our roads, road shoulder stabilization to cut down on the road edge being washed out. We work with Natural Resources on water runoff into our ponds, bays and harbors. We work with the Planning Department on protecting native wild flowers when we mow the road shoulders. Revamped a lot of highway equipment by using military surplus, we bought trucks that cost $150,000.00 and up with under 5000 miles on them for $5,000.00 and under. We have taken care of a lot of flooding areas that have been a problem decades.
