Cynthia Vargas has spent three decades advancing justice in Suffolk County. With 30 years of legal experience and community service she will proudly serve the people of Brookhaven with honor and integrity. As a skilled advocate Cynthia has earned a reputation for her professionalism and tireless work ethic. She has a diverse legal background and over the course of her career has represented clients in District, Family, Supreme, Surrogate and Federal Court.
Her vast experience includes practice in criminal defense, divorce, custody, child support, bankruptcy, landlord/tenant, personal injury and real estate matters. Cynthia has been in private practice for more than 20 years and is admitted to practice law in the State of New York, United States District Court, Eastern District and Supreme Court of the United States. Since joining the Suffolk County Bar Association in 1995, Cynthia has been appointed to the Leadership Development Committee, served as Co-Chair of the Alternate Dispute Resolution Committee, and established and Co-Chaired the Student Mentor Committee. She was an attorney advisor to both Comsewogue and St. Anthony’s High School Mock Trial Teams. As a proven leader, Cynthia was honored to be elected to serve on the Suffolk County Bar Association’s Board of Directors from 2019 through 2022.
In 2008, Cynthia was elected and served as President of the Long Island Hispanic Bar Association. During her tenure, amongst other accomplishments, she founded the Community Legal Education Program. For the past 15 years, Cynthia has coordinated Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations with the Suffolk County Courts and in 2021, was honored as the Keynote Speaker.
Cynthia has been appointed by the Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department to the State of New York Grievance Committee for the Tenth Judicial District and Appointed by the Suffolk County District Administrative Judge to serve on the Suffolk County Women in the Courts Committee and Cohalan Children’s Center Advisory Board. Cynthia is a member of the Suffolk County Bar Association, the Suffolk County Women’s Bar Association, the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York, the Suffolk County Matrimonial Bar Association, the Suffolk County Criminal Bar Association and The Long Island Hispanic Bar Association.
