Albert Dickson's family roots on Shelter Island, go back a number of generations. His Great Grandparents settled on the Island in 1860. He has always felt very fortunate to have grown up on Shelter Island. It has been his long held aspiration to come back to the place he always considered home, and to give back to the community. Albert has a long career as an Environmental Project Manager. He was responsible for coordinating all aspects of a site decontamination, from initial assessment, to remediation, and final disposal of hazardous materials. Now retired, Albert enjoys spending time with his family, on the water; clamming, kayaking, or simply playing at the beach. He currently serves as Chairman of the Water Advisory Committee. He looks forward to bringing his experience and expertise to key issues impacting the Island. These include: WATER - Household water is a community resource vital to public health and economic well-being. It needs to be protected for generations to come. Albert Dickson will address the problems of: excessive water table draw-down, septic influence, and runoff that contribute to the deterioration of creeks and bays. COMMUNITY HOUSING - The rising cost of housing affects everyone-seniors, veterans, and young working families. It’s the core of the island’s ability to make a bright future for the community. Dickson believes in protecting undeveloped land parcels that might be used for developing community housing and he will seek policies and initiatives to support this effort. TICK BORN ILLNESSES - This a serious health issue. It's prudent to maintain the current 3 pronged approach (4-posters, culling, education), but with a concerted effort to reduce the deer herd by incentivizing local hunters to reduce the deer population.
