Former Huntington school board president Jen Hebert has been chosen by town Democrats to run for a seat on the Town Board in November.

One board opening will come up with Democratic Councilman Mark Cuthbertson’s decision to run for the Suffolk County 18th Legislative District. And Republican Councilman Ed Smyth is up for re-election.

Hebert said Friday that “I’m running because I have recently ended a Board of Education run of nine years and really love this community. I really earnestly think I could help.”

“I bring a lot of strength where oversight was my job, with experience in board oversight, including litigation and union negotiations and facilities management.

“I’m not approaching this with what’s important to me but what’s important to this community. I’m genuinely passionate about representing what people want and their biggest concerns are my biggest concerns.”

She cited her work on the school board as evidence of her commitment to team work. “I love being a part of a team. We bring fresh energy and new eyes” to the Town Board.

Jen and husband, Jamie, have three sons; Ben 23, a recent Johns Hopkins graduate, Will, 20, a student at Bentley College, and Sam, 16, a student at Huntington High School. She is nursery school director at St. John’s Episcopal Church.
