What is contaminating Long Island’s water and what, if anything, is being done to reverse it? The state of Long Island’s water quality will be the topic of a free Earth Day event, “Protecting Land & Water Purity on Long Island,” Saturday, April 21, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Huntington, 109 Browns Road, Huntington, NY 11743.
Experts from Stony Brook University, The Nature Conservancy and the Long Island Pine Barrens Society will discuss current threats to water quality, what’s being done to reverse the problem, and how Long Island has met environmental challenges in the past.
Speakers will include:
– Dr. Andrew Griffith, The Gobler Laboratory, Stony Brook University
– Kevin McDonald, Conservation Project Director, The Nature Conservancy
– Richard Amper, Executive Director, Long Island Pine Barrens Society
In addition, New York State Senator Kenneth LaValle and State Assemblyman Steven Englebright will speak about environmental accomplishments of the past and what is necessary to manage Long Island’s continuing water quality challenges to conserve and sustain for the future.
