Brookhaven Bus Riders: Speak in front of the Town Council

Date:
Tuesday, January 9, 2018 - 4:30pm to 6:30pm
Long Island Action

At the SCT Public Hearing last week, Brookhaven Town's Supervisor Edward Romaine spoke in support of the bus riders who live and work in Brookhaven. He talked about how the SCT cuts hurt us and demanded that they be restored.

Let's remind him of his statement, and keep the pressure on him to follow through with policy goals! Romaine also talked about how the residents of Brookhaven would greatly benefit from bus routes that would connect all of the LIRR stations together.

** Let's propose to the Town Council that Brookhaven should go ahead and make and run their own bus routes instead of waiting for SCT.**
We know that this is not an impossible task since Huntington has their own routes and their town has less than half of the amount of people as Brookhaven. It is all about priorities and we can make it a priority of Brookhaven!

How to speak in front of the Town Council:
1. Show up to the meeting early (The meeting is at 5pm but since it is a first-come-first-serve to speak, arriving around 4:30pm is usually good.)
2. Go up to the front of meeting hall where the Town Clerk will sign you up to speak. You will also have to fill out a little card to give your name, address, and what you have come to speak about.
3. The meeting starts at 5pm but the public input part usually starts around 5:30 or 5:45.
4. Groups of 3 or 4 people get called by name to sit at the front table in the order you were signed up in.
5. When it is your turn to speak, you get exactly 3 minutes to say whatever you want to the town council and they must listen without interrupting.

How to get to Brookhaven Town Hall by bus:
- Unfortunately there are no routes that go directly there (which is another thing we can ask for!).
- However if you are a SCAT user, you should be able to get there directly.
- Three fixed route + walking options:
1. S63: Get off at the "Farmingville, Horse Block Rd., Woodcrest Dr." stop ( http://www.sct-bus.org/schedules/s63.pdf ) and then walk for half an hour ( https://www.google.com/maps/dir/40.8316125,-73.0286774/town+hall+brookha...@40.8374049,-73.0301415,15z/data=!4m9!4m8!1m0!1m5!1m1!1s0x89e84660dbc1461b:0xf9f8662fcec40100!2m2!1d-73.01624!2d40.844429!3e2 )
