- Long Island Action
ALL are welcome at our second meeting (indivisible / huddle political action coalition)!
For our next meeting, we will continue to deepen our sense of mission, further communicate about action events, share information about other organizations & initiatives, etc. We talked about compiling a list of local organizations that are doing good work that we hope to donate to with the idea that our money can go further if given to a local group. We also discussed compiling a list of national organizations to donate to as well. Charitywork.com and idealist.org were two great suggestions from members for researching charity organizations. If you have an opportunity before our next meeting to do a little research, especially about local groups that might most directly benefit from our donations, please bring in any info you find to our next meeting!
I also hope to move forward in cultivating media contacts; of course there are the big ones (Newsday and News12, especially) and also the Long Island Press--other progressive groups we will be coordinating with have made contact with a wide variety of papers. No one, to my knowledge, has made contact with the Smithtown News or Smithtown Patch. I think we could be of particular use in focusing our attentions on more local publications that haven't been contacted yet. My hope is we can move into writing frequent letters to the editors to a variety of local newspapers, as well as networking with reporters and getting coverage of the events we are participating in.
