Absentee Voting
Please note that all completed absentee ballots must be postmarked no later than Monday, November 5th or dropped off in person at the Board of Elections before 9PM on Tuesday November 6th. The time to apply for an absentee ballot for the 2012 General Election has passed.

Affidavit Balloting

Governor Cuomo signed an Executive Order allowing Suffolk County voters displaced by Hurricane Sandy to cast an affidavit ballot at a polling station other than their normal polling site.

The voter may vote by affidavit ballot only in contests that occur both in the location of the polling site and the district in which they are registered to vote.

For example, a voter who lives in Brookhaven who wishes to vote in Brooklyn may do so on Election Day but their vote will only count in the Presidential and U.S. Senate races, since these contests occur in both places. Votes cast in U.S. House, Town Supervisor, NYS Assembly and NYS Senate races will not be counted because these contests occur in the location at which the voter is registered but not the location at which the voter is voting.

A voter who lives in Montauk who wishes to vote in Amagansett may do so on Election Day. Their vote will count in all contests because the races occurring in both the location at which the voter is registered and voting are the same.

The State has established a toll-free number to assist voters with questions about voting, poll site changes and absentee ballots. The number is 1-855-NYS-SANDY (1-855-697-7263).
