Jacqueline A. Gordon

Candidate for: 
Babylon Town Council

Councilwoman Jacqueline A. Gordon was born in Jamaica, West Indies and migrated to this country with her family when she was 7 years old. She grew up in Queens, NY where she attended public schools. After high school, Jackie attended the City University of New York’s Hunter College graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Health Education. In 1997, Councilwoman Gordon completed her Master of Science in Counselor Education at Queens College. Immediately upon graduation, Jackie was offered and accepted her current position as a Guidance Counselor at Wilson Technological Center in Farmingdale. In June 2006, Jackie received her professional diploma in Educational Leadership from Queens College. This is her 27th year in education.

In 1984, Jackie enlisted in the United States Army Reserves, with the rank of Private First Class, and worked her way up to Lieutenant Colonel, which she received in December 2007. She has been deployed four times, including Desert Storm (Germany) 1990, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba 2002, Baghdad, Iraq 2003, and Afghanistan 2012. From 2005-2011, Jackie was a member of Congressman Steve Israel’s Service Academy Nomination Committee while residing in his district. Jackie retired from the Army Reserves in June 2014.

Jackie’s commitment to service does not stop professionally. Jackie is the former president and secretary of the Copiague Sports Booster Club and was also a Girl Scout leader. Jackie also serves on the executive board and the scholarship committee for the Association of Long Island Vocational Educators (ALIVE) and is a member of Skills USA, a student organization. Jackie is involved in many organizations, such as Parent Leadership Initiative of the Town of Babylon, Steering Committee; Reserve Officers Association; Western Suffolk Counselor’s Association; Women for Women International; and Veteran’s of Foreign Wars. And as of March 2010, Jackie resides on the board of Girl Scouts of America, Suffolk County. In June 2015 Jackie was appointed as a member of the Board of the Hunter College Alumni Association.

As town councilwoman, Jackie has initiated and served as chair to many committees and new programs. Currently, Councilwoman Gordon serves as the chair of the Ujima Summer Minority Internship Program; Veterans Museum Project located in Lindenhurst, NY; the Town of Babylon Beautification Committee, and of the Town of Babylon Veterans Advisory Council.

As a member of the Army Reserves, Councilwoman Gordon knows firsthand the needs of injured service men and women. She has and will continue to collaborate with the Wounded Warrior Project to raise the awareness and enlist public aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women to provide unique, direct programs, and services to meet their needs.

Councilwoman Gordon has two children. She resides in the Hamlet of Copiague with her son Augustus. Her daughter, Kerrianne, is a 1st Lt in the United States Air Force stationed at Robins AFB, GA. She is currently deployed overseas in support of contingency operations.
