Eugene Wesnofske

Southold Superintendent of Highways

Gene Wesnofske, a familiar name and face in Southold Town, is running for highway superintendent. For the last fifty years, Gene and his family have owned and run a 50-acre farm in Peconic, where he grows a large variety of fruits, vegetables, and flowers, available for purchase at his popular farm stand and at several farmer’s markets on the East End.

Gene has important skills, knowledge, and energy that make him an outstanding candidate for the position of highway superintendent. Running the farm requires foresight, good weather knowledge, budget management, and supervision of a large workforce, all of which are key to successful highway management. Gene also has strong mechanical skills, especially with large machinery such as those used in road maintenance. Gene snowplows in the winter, so he knows the roads of our town well.

Those who know Gene see him as a person with a very strong work ethic who is also a fair and honest employer; he never has trouble finding and keeping people willing to do the hard work that farming demands. Gene and his wife Cheryl live in Cutchogue, and his five children and six grandchildren live on the North Fork as well, helping out at the family farm when they can.
